Conductor piling for new wells offshore and the related piping works

Conductor piling for new wells offshore and the related piping works

The drilling conductor is the first layer of the structure in offshore oil and gas well construction, and it is the supporting basis for subsequent drilling. It has three important functions (isolating seawater, circulation channel, and bearing loads) and three installation methods (hammering, drilling & cementing, jetting in).

The core issue of conductor is the shoe setting depth design. If the pipe vertical bearing capacity is insufficient owing to too shallow depth, it will easily lead to the wellhead sinking, well abandonment, or other accidents . On the contrary, if too deep, time and cost may be also wasted, and may even lead to structural deformation during operation due to the hammer refusal in the condition of pile-group effect.
